The Toolbox for Monitoring

My name is Matthew Lopez, and I am a project scientist for Schnabel Engineering. I have a diverse and lengthy technical background beginning with my service in the United States Air Force, where I would repair and maintain Fighter Aircraft. Fast forward some, and I now carry an extensive background in geotechnical instrumentation and data acquisition, and data science. 

I have been fortunate to work with many fantastic engineers on several unique and complex projects in my instrumentation career. Each is unique in its own way, whether it is specific geography or something specific to the monitoring needs of the project.  Having the right tools and knowing how to use them correctly was always a key to being successful. As I look back on my Air Force career, the same mentality laid true. Having the proper tools to do the job needed.

As technology advances, typically so do our techniques and best practices. For example, in today's fast-paced data-driven world, having quick and accurate data often becomes a requirement for project and asset managers. There have been leaps and bounds to achieve this need when considering the advancement of geotechnical instrumentation and geotechnical instrumentation data acquisition. With the rise of sensors and automation techniques, we now can have decision-making data in seconds.

However, these advancements are only one tool in the toolbox for a complete monitoring and asset management program. Working with EO59 has been a game-changing tool to add to the toolbox regarding historical analysis and proactive monitoring. It has allowed us to provide a complete and total understanding of a project and a view unlike any other. It as a tool helps all areas of the decision-making process and allows our team to advise our project and asset managers in great detail.

With the ever-changing environment and need to provide sound technical analysis, this tool has been paramount in assisting and providing our clients data-driven accurate information and empowering their pro-active asset management programs.
